Duties
Process protests and appeals, prepare casework in preparation for hearings, and appear as an expert witness.
Develop conservation plans, designs technical surveys, and perform work on rangeland construction projects.
Gather monitoring data utilizing various electronic data capturing devices.
Process and analyze data utilizing GIS and other software.
Plan and design range improvements and vegetative management plans consistent with land use plan objectives.
Prepare, evaluate, and conduct biological analyses of public rangeland projects.
Requirements

For GS-07:
In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: assisted higher level professionals with grazing applications and permits, on-the-ground use supervision, plan and conduct range studies, plan range and watershed improvements, conducted trespass investigations, consulted with livestock operators and prepare land use planning documents.

Education: achieved one year of graduate education in range management or a directly related field. (Transcripts Required)

Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
For GS-09:
In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: assisted with grazing leases, permits, transfers and allotment management plans, monitoring studies, allotment evaluations & inspections, analyze multiple resource management issues.

Education: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in rangeland management or a directly related field.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The individual works in an office setting. however, frequently in order to gather samples and complete monitoring activities, the individual may be required to walk or ride vehicles over rough terrain, perform duties that require recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching or lifting. Work may also include lifting of moderately heavy items, such equipment and samples. The incumbent may subjected to hostile wildlife, chemical and physical hazards.
Work Environment: The incumbent works in an office setting. However, frequent field work is required to complete projects. The employee may be exposed to moderate risks of working alone in the discomfort of harsh weather. Special safety precautions and specialized equipment are required.
Education
This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in range management; or a related discipline that included at least 42 semester hours in a combination of the plant, animal, and soil sciences, and natural resources management, as follows:

Range Management -- At least 18 semester hours of course work in range management, including courses in such areas as basic principles of range management, range plants, range ecology, range inventories and studies, range improvements, and ranch or rangeland planning.

Directly Related Plant, Animal, and Soil Sciences -- At least 15 semester hours of directly related courses in the plant, animal, and soil sciences, including at least one course in each of these three scientific areas, i.e., plant, animal, and soil sciences. Courses in such areas as plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant ecology, animal nutrition, livestock production, and soil morphology or soil classification are acceptable.

Related Resource Management Studies -- At least 9 semester hours of course work in related resource management subjects, including courses in such areas as wildlife management, watershed management, natural resource or agricultural economics, forestry, agronomy, forages, and outdoor recreation management.

Achieved a combination of education and experience: at least 42 semester hours of course work in the combination of plant, animal, and soil sciences and natural resources management shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
