This position serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist and reports to the Chief, Environment of Care (Safety and Occupation Health Manger). This position plays a central role in planning and administering environmental programs. The position is located at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK.
Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Plays key role in planning and administering environmental programs.
Administers an environmental program and is responsible for management activities and internal reporting activities.
Advises senior level management officials within the facility on the status of environmental programs and recommends changes in the design of facility work programs to meet new environmental requirements.
Interacts with federal, state, and local environmental agencies with respect to facility environmental issues.
Independently schedules and leads environmental audits to identify and evaluate program implementation and compliance activities.
Conducts site inspections, collects data, reviews documents', analyzes evidence, and evaluates results.
Trains other employees and subordinate environmental staff, providing instruction on a variety of subjects related to specific and specialized environmental topics.
Writes inspection reports, recommending corrective action or procedures for compliance and coordinating with management officials.
Completes permits and leads facility self-assessments, inspection, and other environmental investigations.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must meet at least one of the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Environmental Protection Specialist, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes planning, implementing, and evaluating environmental protection programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing air emissions, hazardous materials, non-hazardous and hazardous waste, oil spills, water quality, and the storage of regulated substances (e.g., petroleum products, chemicals, and wastes).

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education with courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. This education must have been obtained at an accredited college or university. Transcripts Required

COMBINATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed progressively higher-level graduate education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Transcripts Required.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work includes frequent audits of waste storage areas and involves a good deal of walking, standing, bending, and climbing.
