The position is responsible for managing the groundkeeping activity in a zone of approximately 60 acres of improved, semi-improved and special landscape areas.
Duties
Major Duties:
Establishes schedules for proper application of fertilizers and soil amendments, planting, weeding, trimming and pruning of shrubs, trees and palms.
Edging turf, mowing grass, emptying trash receptacles, and removal of debris and trash to a disposal site.
Operates grounds maintenance equipment, including riding mowers, 1/2 ton utility vehicles, 3/4 ton pickup truck, 1/2 ton dump truck, electric and gas powered trimmers, edgers, and tractor-driven chipper.
Assists in irrigation system repair and operation
Patches asphalt, erect signs, clean storm drains, prepares grounds and equipment for special events, and assist pest controller in application of herbicide and insecticide.
Performs basic mechanical repairs to grounds equipment, preventative maintenance, sharpens mower blades, changes tires and operates water discharge pumps.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM with occasional weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Lifting & moving objects over 50 pounds; Must be able to shovel, dig, saw, lift, push and carry; Work is done outside & subject to discomfort from long periods in the hot sun, and sometimes chilly or rainy weather being exposed to dirt, dust, mud, and sometimes to chemical sprays and dusts; Exposed to water splash, wet clothing and shoes, & all forms of nature, such as fire ants, stinging caterpillars, bees and wasps, snakes and other vertebrates, poison ivy, and other poisonous plants; Exposed to noise, exhaust fumes and possible injury from using tools and equipment; Works from ladders, down in holes, and other awkward positions.
