You will serve as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic in the Lifting and Handling Department of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will repair, disassemble, and replace parts found on portal, mobile, bridge and floating cranes You will troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, structural components, drivetrains and other mechanical systems You will perform repairs such as removing, adjusting or replacing worn parts and components with little to no supervision. You may also perform occasional maintenance level inspections. You will read and understand blueprints, manufacturer’s instructions and technical manuals related to heavy mobile equipment repair. You will use good judgement and initiative and possess the skills and knowledge to perform all operations with regard for safety and efficiency

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, and work in cramped uncomfortable positions.
  • You may be required to obtain and retain a crane license.
  • Work is regularly performed from ladders, platforms, staging, or man lifts and the employee must be able to work at heights of up to 150 feet.
