About the Position: This position is located at Fort Sam Houston, in beautiful and historic San Antonio and is within easy commuting distance of desirable neighborhoods and excellent school systems. Duties

Responsible for the operations and maintenance of US Army South’s secure and unsecure Visual Information/Video Teleconferencing (VI/VTC) networks. Configure and optimize network servers, routers and switches to ensure peak performance and minimizing network latency. Provide life-cycle replacement technical guidance for the command and advises on emerging technologies procurement. Promote, train and educate customers on the use and value of the Visual Information Network. Alter policies and procedures to conform work with higher headquarters during exercises and real world situations. Conduct planning, reviews and validation testing to ensure systems integrations improve the VI network reliability and capabilities. Evaluate the effectiveness of support, efficiency of operations and compliance with policies governing Visual Information and VTC productions. Prevent information systems vulnerabilities, to provide or restore security of information systems, and network services. Develop information systems architectures to include a system integration plan which provides current capabilities. Identify visual information systems capabilities or inadequacies to meet current stated mission requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain (within 6 months) and maintain an IAT-Level I certification IAW DoD 8570.01-M training/certifications in Comptia Network + and Comptia Security +to perform VTC functions.

Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: solving complex or sensitive problems by developing and proposing strategic alternatives; identifying possible conflicts and shared benefits; helping team anticipate problems and identifying and evaluating potential sources of information; providing feedback and coaching to others to help solve problems; engaging appropriate stakeholders when developing solutions in order to understand and incorporate multiple perspectives and needs; evaluating the effectiveness of decisions and adjusting future decisions as appropriate. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; providing input on the installation, and maintenance of hardware/software systems, assisting with a wide range of telecommunications in support of agencies Video Teleconferences (VTC), troubleshooting components of network routers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
