This position is located in Region 1, on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, Rocky Mountain Ranger District with a duty station of Choteau, MT.
The incumbent is responsible for operating and maintaining the Rocky Mountain Ranger District's recreation program by implementing both annual and long-term work plans for recreation sites, both developed and dispersed.

Duties
Duties listed are at the full performance level GS-09.
Participate in developing long-range plans for managing recreation resources and recreation sites.
Participate in development plans for recreation site maintenance, rehabilitation and construction in accordance with program objectives.
Process permits for land use, recreation and non-recreation use on unit.
Maintain administrative records and project files for reporting purposes on unit.
Assist with compliance checks on permits issued under special use authority.
Patrol to enforce off road vehicle restrictions are in accordance with recreation plans and regulations.
Issue violation warnings or notices to enforce agency regulations and federal laws.
Demonstrate a commitment to fostering and promoting an equitable, inclusive, and safe work environment.
Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-08 level: Applicants must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing two or more of the following duties:
Assisting in conducting compliance reviews for special use permits;
Reviewing routine permit applications to prepare and issue draft/final/modified permits, facts and public notices;
Inspecting applicable construction projects to determine if changes are needed or other action is necessary;
Preparing applicable recreation resource documents.
OR 2 full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position such as forestry, range management, agriculture, recreation, recreation management forest resource management, natural resource management or park management;
OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience as described above. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
For the GS-09 level: Applicants must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing three or more of the following duties:
Developing plans and objectives to maintain, rehabilitate, construct or reconstruct recreation facilities and sites;
Maintaining records and generating reports for an office;
Issuing and ensuring compliance for permits in land-use, recreation and non-recreation use;
Inspecting recreation areas for public use and safety;
Recommending work plans for recreation sites to generate visitor interest
OR 2 full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position such as forestry, range management, agriculture; recreation, recreation management, forest resource management, natural resource management, or park management;
OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience as described above. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
