The Podiatrist position is located at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) which includes the Whiteriver Hospital and Cibecue Health Center. This position is based at the Whiteriver Hospital and may require travel on a rotating schedule as needed. As a clinical Podiatrist, the incumbent provides diagnosis, treatment and surgical procedures to beneficiary patients at the WRSU hospital and Cibecue clinic.

Duties

Primary assignments include providing comprehensive podiatry care services to patients. The podiatry services provided requires the recognition of diseases, primarily Diabetes Mellitus and other complex/surgical problems. Assignments may also include providing consultation and/or surgical assistance to others in the same or other specialties. Perform as a recognized expert in dealing with a variety of unusually difficult cases, the podiatrist performs professional work involved in the care and treatment of foot diseases and disorders by physical, medical and/or surgical methods. Performs comprehensive assessment of patients, reviews past history, and requests and performs diagnostic tests and other examinations as needed to establish diagnoses. Identifies individuals who are at high risk for lower extremity amputations. Recognizes rare and difficult to identify symptoms or signs, and is responsible for developing a full regimen involving knowledge of new techniques or the use of prolonged or complicated procedures on advanced delicate skills. Obtains privileges and performs outpatient and inpatient surgical procedures under local, regional, spinal, and general anesthesia at Whiteriver hospital and other local hospitals and/or surgical facilities. Counsels and educates patients, families, communities, staff and other regarding health care with emphasis on diabetes and prevention of complications. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): All Podiatrists must meet the following basic requirements: Degree - Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric accredited by American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA). Licensure - Active, unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine as a Podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. Qualifying experience may include: Diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems; Setting fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs; Treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; and/or Other experience necessary to perform the duties of the position. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-0668-14: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Recognized expert in dealing with a variety of unusually difficult cases involved in the care and treatment of the feet, ankles, and legs; responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and leg disease and disorders by mechanical, medical and/or surgical methods. Selective Placement Factor: Board certification or board eligibility for American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Medicine and/or the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. (Certification must be submitted with application) Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
