About the Position: This position is located in the Logistics, Linen Management Department at Bayne Army Community Hospital, Fort Johnson, Louisiana.

Duties

Inventory laundry by counting items on exchange carts that were returned to laundry. Push carts to and from loading areas. Match count of items received against items sent on invoice. Unload delivery of clean laundry onto shelves in clean linen room. Prepare clean laundry for use in the hospital. Collect or receive bags of soiled laundry from hospital patients or institutional units and transport to laundry.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • This position is an inclement weather essential position. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • This position may require the wear of a uniform.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laundry Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I can collect, receive, and store linen and apparel, assemble and issue clean linen. I can set marking machine by pressing keys and follow established sequences to set procedure accordingly of Laundry Work. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Worker may be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Worker must frequently lift and carry bundles, materials and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Worker may occasionally handle items that weigh over 60 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside building and on receiving and shipping dock in all kinds of weather. The area may be cold, drafty, humid, damp or hot. Work is performed in close quarters in building or bin aisles, ramps or platforms. Is exposed to possibility of bruises from handling materials on materials handling equipment. Worker is exposed repeatedly to contaminate linen materials. Must wear protective masks, gloves, and gowns when handling laundry from patients with contagious diseases. Worker must be tactful and take precautions to preclude interfering with patient care when making deliveries.
