This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Commandant, Vice Commandant, Office of Governmental and Public Affairs (CG-092), Office of Coast Guard Heritage & History (CG-0924), National Coast Guard Museum (CG-09241), New London, CT.

Duties

You will serve as Director of Exhibits and Programs for the National Coast Guard Museum providing administrative and policy direction in terms of broad mission, vision and objective statements. You will be responsible for applying highly specialized knowledge of Coast Guard (CG) exhibits, education practice and local, state, national standards, and audience behavior in programming related to both community and national outreach, as well as in the development of interactive learning opportunities within the exhibition.  Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Qualifications

At the GS-13 level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service. Specialized experience which includes: serving as program manager using project management for planning, directing, and coordinating museum exhibit and education efforts that feed into a parent entity's strategic communication; developing long range plans and implementing museum programs; serving as a subject matter expert on museum systems;  acting as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for contracted exhibit and education work; managing contracts, preparing cost estimates for projects, developing scopes of work, and final specifications for exhibit and education work; applying cultural artifact preservation legislation, policies, guidelines, and standards; developing resource proposals; directing and supervising a staff. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
