About the Position: This position is located in the Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) ILSC Field Support Operations, Fleet Management Expansion (FMX).

Duties

Troubleshoot problems in heavy mobile equipment and combat vehicles. Remove, repair, rebuild and or replace various components. Operates tractor-trailers under limited traffic conditions at low speeds. Drive one or more trucks, such as platform trucks, stake trucks or dump trucks which typically have a GVW over 32,000 pounds, on public roads at highway speeds.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • Must possess a valid State Driver's License and Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification Card.
  • The incumbent of this position is subject to mandatory alcohol testing.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent will work in a dirty and greasy environment and is subject to noxious engine fumes.
  • This position requires incumbent to work in adverse weather.
  • The incumbent is subject to cuts and abrasions from hand tools, burns from hot engines, and falls from working on top of equipment items.
  • May be required to conduct QA/QC inspections and operate recovery and evacuation vehicles.
  • Incumbent will be required to have a Virginia Class A Commerical Drivers License (CDL)

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. At times, works on top of or under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling and depressing of various hand and foot controls. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside and subject to extreme weather conditions, in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is frequently inadequately heated; work is dirty, greasy and noisy; possibility exists for injury from dropped units and parts, slipping tools, slipping from work position. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves frequent exposure to exhaust fumes. Prescribed safety practices and safety equipment is used; protective hearing devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.
