This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel in the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: the Garrison's primary element for maintenance of the installation, infrastructure, and the environment.

Duties

Perform the full range of work involved in the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of industrial and domestic reach-in and walk-in refrigerators, cold-storage, air conditioning units, ventilating systems, and related equipment. Diagnose and locate mal functions; disassembles, repairs, replaced, and/or adjust thermostats, pressurestats, humistats, relays, switches, and other automatic control devices. Installs and relocates equipment. Uses all hand tools, test equipment and instruments, welding equipment and shop machines. Train inexperienced personnel by giving on-the-job instructions and assistance; and observes all safety rules and regulations. Operates vehicle in transporting tools and materials to jobsite.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Continued employment in this position requires possession of a valid State/Commonwealth Operators License for equipment being operated and requiring license, as well as an agency issued US Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification Card.
  • This position requires the incumbent to process and maintain a Chlorofluorocarbon Chemicals (CFC) Type Universal certification as required by Section 608 of The Clean Air Act, 1990 EPA mandatory Technician Certification by November 14, 1994.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

I have the ability to perform the full range of Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic duties. I am skilled in recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, or making repairs on large Industrial systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, or circulating. I can perform Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic duties. I am skilled in recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, or making repairs on large Industrial systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, or circulating, including water cooled and air-cooled chillers (including water cooled and air-cooled chillers such as centrifugal, screw, magnetic bearing, and scroll compressors). I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Mechanic frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms to parts of systems that are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, bending, and kneeling are required for long periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is usually adequately heated and ventilated; work is frequently dirty and greasy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold-storage rooms; subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock; possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gases.
