About the Position: Employee works with the Official Mail Manager in the mail room and distribution center servicing USACE, Office of the CIO/ G-6. The work involves the performance of clerical duties related to the processing of incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, publications, classifications, etc. The incumbent will study incoming correspondence containing a wide variety of subjects and to route this correspondence within the headquarters or subordinate headquarters.

Duties

Frequent walking, stooping, stretching, and bending involved and also recurrent carrying and lifting of moderately heavy (under 50 pounds) items and occasional lifting and carrying of heavier materials. Bundle mail according to US Postal Service regulations. Run mail through the sealing, metering and cancelling machines for accuracy. Use the mail meter to weigh parcels and mail to determine the correct postage. Provide data information to Records Manager for the semi-annual Positive Accountability Postage Administration System (PAPUS) cost reports. Monitor and receive large volume of official mail involving a variety of items and stressing the importance of the cost control program. Open, perforate, date stamp and read as necessary to determine routing by subject matter. Distribute mail to individually marked boxes in the distribution. Maintain and replenish the inventory of postage office supplies.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementAttention to DetailClericalWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
