This position is located in the Facility Management Branch within the Division of Administrative Services at the Crownpoint Service Unit in Crownpoint, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to service as a journeyman electrician in performing electrical maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and installation of equipment to assigned organization. Service coverage includes Health Centers.
Duties
Installs, modifies, repairs, troubleshoots, load and test new and existing electrical systems, lines, circuits, fixtures, controls and equipment which is mainly on secondary distribution lines, loads and frequency requirements, distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits, electrical warning and lighting systems.
Plans routes, replaces specific types, sizes and gauge of circuits and conductors. Balances, loads and performs continuity and installation test for proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.
Determines and installs wiring, conduit, fixtures, transformers, motors and other electrical devices in the size, type and arrangement needed for proper and safe operation of electrical systems, circuits and equipment. Operates and maintains the emergency generator, communication and warning systems such as intercoms, paging systems and fire alarm system.
Maintains assigned and scheduled preventive maintenance per work orders within established time frames.
Maintains work area to provide a safe and clean manner. Utilizes appropriate tools and equipment to follow regulated procedures. Utilizes personal protective equipment and proper lifting techniques to prevent downtime due to avoidable injuries.
Maintains tools, equipment and parts issued. Practices proper operation of equipment, tools, and parts of operation of common controls to avoid hazards likely to be encountered. Ensures inventory of parts and materials are maintained to avoid interruptions of services to each facility in a timely manner.
Achieves customer service objective to internal and external customers, co-workers, subordinates and supervisors. Performs duties in conformance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standard, Lock-Out-Tag-Out and Hospital Policy and Procedures.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of the operation and installation of a variety of complete electrical systems and equipment. Knowledge about how various circuits, equipment, and controls operate, and work together. Knowledge of the various gauges, sizes, and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices, and the ability to arrange and install them in ways that insure proper and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment. Ability to interpret and apply the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and to use trade formulas to calculate common properties. Skill to use of hand tools, power tools and a wide variety of test equipment. Ability to interpret and navigate the electronic heating, ventilation and air conditional software system.
Responsibility: Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor. Incumbent works from building plans and wiring diagrams. Incumbent plans and lays out the routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial or similarly complex systems, circuits, controls, and equipment. Incumbent determines installation and repairs including the type, size, gauge, and lay out of conduit, wiring, coupling, fitting, relay, control, and distribution panels, and other electrical devices used in a variety of complete electrical systems and the best methods of installation and repair. The incumbent is responsible for safe and proper operation of systems and equipment according to the National Electrical Code, local codes (authority having jurisdiction), other applicable industry standards and OSHA Standards. The incumbent completes installations, modifications, and repair and load and test systems, circuits, equipment, and controls with little or no checks during the progress or upon completion of work. The supervisor checks overall work to see that it meets accepted trade standards and is completed in a timely manner.
Physical Effort: Incumbent makes repairs and installation from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that are up to 20 pounds, and less often up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is performed both include and outside. Incumbent repairs and installation in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or high lift at heights of 15 feet or more; and in close quarters such as attics as needed. Occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Performs work in patient care areas and sterile area, incumbent if required to exercise Infection Control procedures.
