This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO), Marine Operations Unit (MO) with one vacancy in Durham, NH. Duties

As a Supervisory Physical Science Technician, you will perform the following duties: Serve as a Supervisory Physical Science Technician for fleet-wide science missions of oceanographic, meteorological, fisheries, uncrewed, hydrographic survey, and multi mission operations including shore activities, training and development, and rotations by determining ship assignments in conjunction with Ships Command based on operational requirements. Provide support for training and development, scientific sensor maintenance and management, and ensure fleet-wide data stewardship practices. Provide shoreside technical expertise and troubleshooting for fleet-wide science missions of various sensor systems and supporting infrastructure. Monitor data quality and conduct quality assurance (QA)/quality control (QC) of data in real-time, review sensor drift, use records, trends over time, and evaluate ship metadata records for accuracy. Evaluate continued development and review of fleet-wide best practices. Perform the full range of supervisory functions to include developing performance standards, giving advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters, approve leave, interview candidates for subordinate positions and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position has physical requirements. Able to work aboard a moving vessel and occasionally lift equipment that weighs up to 50 lbs. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position may require deployment to a NOAA Ship to provide training and promote standardization of practices across the Fleet. May work aboard vessels in extreme environmental conditions and choppy seas. Deploy small boats for operations, will have to ascend and descend a rope ladder. During an abandon ship event, will have to don a survival suit and/or descend a rope ladder to a life raft or rescue craft. Should be able to don a survival suit in two minutes while fully clothed without having to remove their shoes. Must complete a NOAA Form 57-10-01 Health Services Questionnaire and be medically cleared. This position requires the operation of a Federal motor vehicle.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the ZT-5 or GS-13 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZT-4 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Troubleshooting fleet-wide sensor systems and supporting infrastructure; Providing support and technical guidance in the areas of training and development, scientific sensor maintenance and management; and Providing data management such as quality assurance and control of real-time data.
