Duties

If selected, you will serve as the Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist for the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Eastern District of Michigan. You will be responsible for providing technical programmatic guidance and oversight of legal support functions for the District. Typical work assignments will include: Providing expert advice to litigation teams on current policy, legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation, and trial presentation; Analyzing litigation services, work methods, systems used, and equipment needs for assigned areas in order to maintain operational efficiency and effectiveness in meeting requirements established by the USAO staff and the courts; Performing a wide range of information system analysis, development, and installation in support of District litigation support activities for assigned cases; Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting goals and priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work; and Identifying development and training needs of staff. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-13: To be eligible at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience overseeing and/or personally performing complex litigation support services for an agency or organization. Examples of specialized experience include: providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements; diagnosing and resolving litigation support computer system problems and customizing databases and programs to meet individual user needs; analyzing automated litigation support functions and recommending changes to increase system efficiency and effectiveness; providing support to team members on their use of litigation technology applications (e.g., document review databases. Courtroom presentation software, etc.); or recommending a variety of software packages including databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications based on which software would be most effective for presentation of complex and voluminous evidence or for production of graphic demonstrative evidence.
