About the Position: Principal technical advisor to the BN Commander on a wide range of advertising, outreach, and public affairs programs within the BN area of responsibility. Plans and supervises all aspects of Command Information, Public Information/Media Relations, Community Relations/Outreach and Social Media. Serves on the staff of the BN Commander (Cdr) and exercises staff supervision over A&PA activities in recruiting companies and stations.
Duties
Maintains professional relationships with local media to arrange local news coverage.
Directs the work activities of employees within the Public Affairs Division.
Oversees all aspects of Command information, public information, and community relations within the Battalion.
Manages advertising programs and budgets for assigned organization.

- Appointment to this position is subject to a 1-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- A 1- year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain a valid States Driver's License.

Specialized Experience: Experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes contacting a variety of organizations to obtain media coverage; developing informational materials for audiences such as news releases, fact sheets, or presentations; analyzing market data to determine the effectiveness of informational materials; utilizing multiple social media platforms to promote assigned organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
