This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove.
Duties
Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs heating systems, such as oil/gas fired steam and hot water boilers.
Utilizes advanced automated HVAC troubleshooting software, web-based chat bots and equipment to enable successful troubleshooting and repair of advanced technology HVAC and building systems.
Provides emergency response to emergency calls regarding "no heat", and/or breakdowns of common utilities and installed equipment.
Operates motor vehicles and tows trailers with a combined gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of less than 26001 pounds to and from jobsites in order to transport equipment, materials, supplies, and personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
- This position requires incumbent to work an on-call work schedule to respond to after-hours emergencies. This may include, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) for WG-08 Grade Level: Ability to do the work of a(n) Heating Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Heating Equipment Repairer tasks such as replaces burned out switches, damaged light fixtures and electrical outlets. Resets breakers. Clears clogged drains. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) for WG-09 Grade Level: Ability to do the work of a(n) Heating Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Heating Equipment Repairer tasks such as repairs and replaces malfunctioning electronic and other controls and safety devices. Replaces burned out switches, damaged light fixtures and electrical outlets. Resets breakers. Clears clogged drains and repairs/replaces leaking pipes and fixtures. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.
Physical Effort: May lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. Uses weight handling equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, dolly, pry bar to handle heavier items. Required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods. Make repairs from ladders and platforms.
Working Conditions: Works in rooms on concrete floors subject to relatively high temperature and is exposed to gas, smoke, ash, soot and burns from scalding water and contact with heated parts of the system. Subject to injuries from falls from ladders, and platforms and lifting equipment and from dropping moderately heavy items. Frequently must wear protective clothing and devices such as goggles, respirators, heavy aprons, hard hats, and protective gloves. Occasionally works outside or in cramped quarters
