This position is located within the Office of Science Policy and Analysis (OSPA), NIDCR. The specific branch provides subject matter expertise and research services in support of OSPA, NIDCR, and IC leadership. Areas of expertise include dental, oral, and craniofacial epidemiology; public health; and engagement across NIH and with other federal agencies. The branch also provides supervision, research expertise, and statistical support to the Dental Public Health Research Fellowship program.

Duties

Supervises a staff of professionals with program analytic, statistics, public health, and research expertise, assigning work, developing performance plans, reviewing work progress, and evaluating staff. Conducts statistical analysis, coordinate reports and manuscripts for publication, and prepares reports and provides interpretation of human population data on trends in morbidity, mortality and care patterns for diseases. Identifies, analyzes, and helps to develop program policy options for emerging oral health issues of importance to dentistry and to NIDCR. Plans, develops, directs and coordinates activities to enhance the transfer of knowledge gained through oral health research to application, by health professionals, health education institutions, and relevant Federal programs. Coordinates activities at workshops, conferences and seminars on relevant issues of important to dental education, research, dental practice and NIDCR. Provides guidance with respect to the scientific content and accuracy of educational materials for professional audiences. Provides guidance and support to the NIDCR Dental Public Health Residency Program.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Supervisory Health Science Policy Analyst, GS-0601 position, you must meet these requirements: Education: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained). AND Additional Qualifications: In order to qualify for a Supervisory Health Science Policy Analyst, 0601, at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: leading the overall communications and coordination efforts for public health or dental, oral, and/or craniofacial health programs for an organization; analyzing (e.g., using large data sets, statistical analyses, and epidemiology) and evaluating scientific policy issues; translating research to implement processes and policies for public health or dental, oral, and/or craniofacial scientific program operations; and monitoring scientific research advances and trends in public health or dental, oral, and/or craniofacial science to identify opportunities for improvements.
