About the Position: This position is located Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County, Florida. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

Analyze nutrition needs for individuals using evidenced-based epidemiological principles, evidenced-based nutrition education and behavior change theories. Provide recommendations to improve nutrition program outcomes (individual, worksite, community, and/or policy). Use health promotion strategic plan assessment results and installation population health priorities to develop and plan secondary, and tertiary nutrition programs and services. Develop and market nutrition programs through individual and group education, lectures, workshops, and social marketing campaigns. Interview patients to obtain nutrition assessment data and information regarding usual dietary patterns, lifestyle, food purchasing practices and resources, and provide recommendations to adopt a modified diet. Develop individualize plans for nutrition intervention in accordance with the client’s medical/personal goals, diagnosis, and self-management potential. Evaluate plans and treatment outcomes to ensure optimal health objectives are met. Recommend and develop instructional materials for one on one, worksite, and community population on nutrition education.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours/shifts which may include evenings, weekends, and/or varying work schedules for outreach.
  • This position requires Tuberculosis Testing and/or record of Tuberculosis Testing.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Dietitian: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science in an educational program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. OR Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing counseling or assistance on use of dietary treatment plans or nutritional assessments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Nutrition, Functional Foods, Health Science, Food Science or Dietetics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
