About the Position: This position is located at Naval Hospital Beaufort in Beaufort, South Carolina. This position is a part of the Defense Health Agency. Hours of work are 0700-1530 Monday - Friday with occasional overtime. Working environment may be inside, outside, in confined spaces, on roofs, in mechanical rooms, sometimes dirty, sometimes hot or cold, on ladders or scaffolding. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation using Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce

Duties

Install, maintain, and repair various electrical wiring systems, electrical controls, and electrically operated equipment. Install transformers, converters, switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, and similar devices. Typical repairs in shop, overhaul, and repairs of electrical equipment. Traces circuits, locate defects, clean and replace parts. Test equipment for proper operation, safety and accuracy. May performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Work requires the employee to drive a vehicle. A valid state driver's license is required.
  • Ability to work overtime, nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project to which the employee is assigned.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electrician without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a variety of electrical lines and circuits; and installing a wide range of raceways, fuse boxes, and electrical motors. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. Physical Effort: Work requires climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts part and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Hand trucks and dollies are available for heavier items. Occasionally works from ladders or scaffolds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside, outside, on roofs, above ceilings, in crawlspaces, and is usually dirt, dusty, greasy, hot, cold and sometimes in poor lighting. Work at times is performed in bad weather. May be exposed to fumes, noise, and unpleasant odors with the possibility of cuts or abrasions.
