This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the Defense Health Agency for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency 96th Medical Group Director of Surgery Primary Care Behavioral Health Program and provides a team-based approach to healthcare by integrating behavioral health providers for Military Health System beneficiaries.
Duties
Provides targeted assessment and evaluation of functional status focused in the context of the presenting problem.
Conducts brief assessments and formulates evidence-based interventions appropriate to a primary care setting for a wide range of behavioral health conditions, chronic medical conditions, and health behaviors affecting medical conditions.
Provide high level expertise in human behavior as a primary care team member to develop and support specific clinical pathways or best practice programs for targeted patient groups
Determines if patient is appropriate to receive Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model services in the primary care setting.
Develops, teaches, and provides oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health, and promote behavioral change related to improved health status.

- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization and Tuberculin testing is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Behavioral Health Consultant):
Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.(You must submit transcripts)
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting biopsychosocial evaluations, offering both individual and group therapy, and employing a collaborative healthcare approach. Responsibilities include developing treatment plans, exercising professional judgment, and flexibly applying a broad spectrum of social work skills and consultation services. Additionally, it involves planning, coordinating, and delivering comprehensive social work services to a diverse population, from children to geriatric patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-12, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
