About the Position: This job announcement is for a Support Services Specialist, GS-0342-06/07 position for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District, located in Rock Island, Illinois. Selection may be made at either grade level based on qualifications.
Duties
Duties listed below are at the full performance, GS-07, grade level:
Perform timekeeping, travel, and training functions.
Manage mandatory training database.
Provide orientation to new employees.
Schedule meetings and update branch calendars.
Prepare and distribute memorandums and other correspondence.
Initiate personnel actions for branch employees.
Create updates to overall office procedures and administrative matters.
Track budget allocations.
Assemble monthly expenditures for operating budget reporting.
Purchase new software and tracking software license renewal dates.
Purchase office supplies, equipment, and other services.
Conduct periodic inventories, receive, and dispose of property, and coordinate maintenance/repair of equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site specific, job related requirements, and must maintain this license.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. To qualify for the GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service which includes maintaining office files, assisting visitors and personnel, utilizing automation applications, processing travel orders and vouchers, drafting memorandums and correspondence for review, and generating a variety of personnel actions for all branch personnel.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
To qualify for the GS-07:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service which includes collecting budgetary information used for budget planning and tracking, purchasing office supplies, equipment, and services, processing travel orders and vouchers, review and finalize memorandums and correspondence, and generating a variety of personnel actions for all branch personnel.
OR
Education: Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
