This position is located at the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, SD. The purpose of the position is to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate education, promote the growth and development of its licensed and unlicensed staff, validate competency and to provide orientation and ongoing education for the Inpatient staff. Incumbent will also perform direct patient nursing duties.

Assesses the educational and performance needs of the Acute Care staff with the Acute Care Nurse Supervisor.
Plans and develops objectives for professional growth. Participates with Acute Care supervisor and staff in planning, problem-solving techniques and ways to make improvements in Nursing Service.
Keeps abreast of new legislation and regulations that affect standards of nursing practice and patient care. Assists in ensuring Nursing Service Compliance with The Joint Commission and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS), as well as Nursing Services Standards of Practice.
Engages in clinical practice to maintain clinical skills and expertise. Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on
appropriate utilization of protocols.
Qualifications

Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in nursing education, strong clinical experience and skills, academic and clinical education leadership and relationship building, research and evidence-based implementation, ability to engage peers as a charge nurse or nurse leader, ability to work effectively in partnership with other health team members, ability to manage people, considered expert clinical nurse, supports staff performance, ability to evaluate competency, capable of developing a written plan to address identified training needs, ability to train others to coach and mentor knowledge and skills.
Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
