This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Northwest Region, Wapato Irrigation in Wapato, Washington.

NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.
Duties
Utilizes skill in carpentry, concrete, and masonry to repair and replace irrigation structures including checks, drops, head gates, diversions, weirs, concrete pipelines, bridges and buildings.
Operates various machines and tools including cement mixers, jackhammers, hand tools, power tools, air compressors, propane burners, chain saws, compactors, and portable pumps.
Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of equipment used.
Performs daily maintenance and does minor adjustments.
Schedules and reports use of materials and equipment utilized on each job.
Assists in cleaning canals and laterals including trash removal, weed burning, fire control, and mechanical ditching.
May be required to serve as alternate Irrigation System Operator (Ditch rider) during peak water seasons.

- Incumbent is required to operate a government motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license, and have a safe driving record within the 3 year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607.
- This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
- The Incumbent is also required to possess a Class B CDL driver license with Air Brake and Hazardous Endorsements.
- Position is SEASONAL and subject to PLACEMENT IN NON-PAY STATUS when services are not needed due to lack of work, funds, or unforeseen circumstances as designated during the year, a minimum of 2 weeks and maximum of 26 weeks.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain a Washington State, "Public Operator" Pesticide Applicator License.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. Listed below are the JOB ELEMENTS you will be rated on:

· DEXTERITY AND SAFETY.
· OPERATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES.
I have performed the following without more than normal supervision: repair and replacement of irrigation structures and facilities utilized in the distribution of water; skill in carpentry, concrete, and masonry to repair and replace irrigation machines and tools; operates various machines and tools including cement mixers, jackhammers, hand tools, power tools, air compressors, propane burners, chain saws, compactors, and portable pumps; performs daily maintenance and minor adjustments on equipment; can operate a variety of earthmoving equipment, dump trucks, forklifts, small dozers, etc.
BASIS OF RATING: The first job element is the screen-out element (Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision). Applicants who do not meet the minimum quality level of experience for this element will be rated ineligible and will receive no further consideration for this position.

It will be to their advantage to give a clear and complete description of any pertinent experience or training gained, including types of equipment and devices with which concerned.
