The incumbent is a painter assigned to the Maintenance and Operations Section of the Engineering Service at the Charlie Norwood VAMC in Augusta, GA
Duties
The duties include, but not limited to:
Prepares surfaces to be painted or covered with wall covering by scraping, sanding, sand blasting or applying paint remover.
Prepares surfaces by such methods as filling, shaping and leveling with metal and synthetic resins.
Mixes and applies such pre-coating agents as alkali compounds.
Required to accurately measure and calculate square footage of areas.
Required to provide an estimate of materials required to do the job, i.e., paint, wall covering, floor tile, carpet tile and base board.
Required to sets up ladder, scaffolding or swinging stage
Have vast knowledge of computers & programs for Visual illustration designs & fabrication of signage.
Use of computers and sign making machines to detailed measurements and instructions.
Tint and/or mix paints to match existing or prescribed colors.
Prepare existing surface's before installation of new floor tile and carpet tile floors refinish hardwood floors.
Inspect and Install vinyl wall covering and protective vinyl materials to walls.
Responsible for knowing and practicing good workmanship, customer service & all safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of computers & programs for designs & fabrication of signage for the Medical Center.
Use of computers and sign making machines to detailed measurements and instructions.
Incumbent perform in a sustained effort scraping, sanding, cleaning and painting surfaces, including ceilings and walls which require the use of tools overhead and above shoulder heights
Painter frequently lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 25 pounds; occasionally that weight up to 50 pounds and over.
Incumbent is subjected to hazardous conditions, such as danger from inhaling harmful fumes and vapors.
Work Schedule: 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday. Subject to change depending on the needs of the agency.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent performs in a sustained effort scraping, sanding, clean and painting surfaces, including ceilings and walls which require the use of tools overhead and above should heights. This work involves standing, sitting, bending, kneeling and squatting. When working on platforms, scaffolding and ladders, it is necessary that the incumbent must climb equipment carrying and lifting painting tools and materials. The painter frequently lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment that weight up to 25 pounds; occasionally that weigh up to 50 pounds and over.
Working Environment: Subject to hazardous conditions, such as danger from inhaling harmful fumes and vapors, danger from receiving burns and skin irritations and danger of eye injury while chipping and scrapping paint, plastic or rust. Work is performed inside and outside in a wide variety of extreme weather conditions; work is often dirty and dust.. Exposed to the possibilities of cuts, bruises, burns and falls in the performance of routine duties. Incumbent is exposed to the actions of psychiatric patients. Some duties require the wearing of protective equipment and clothing which is heavy and .uncomfortable. Contacting a communicable disease is a potential hazard. Incumbent works frequently with flammable materials.
