This position is a Fish and Wildlife Biologist, GS- 0401-11/12 working for the R7-ARD-Ecological Services and Fisheries in the Regional Office (Anchorage, AK) or the Northern Alaska Fish and Wildlife Field Office (Fairbanks, AK).
Duties
As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Plans, coordinates, and carries out a wide variety of projects, including invasive species prevention such as watercraft inspection stations and invasive species rapid response activities. Monitors and supports regional workplan activities and accomplishments through field visits and online data reporting systems.
Pursues collaborative intra-agency and interagency partnerships as well as inreach and outreach opportunities.
Conducts invasive species biosecurity trainings and updates related Best Management Practices documents for the Alaska Region.
Assesses proposals and workplans plans for alignment with FWS, federal, state, and tribal laws and with regulations such as Aquatic Resource Permits and Pesticide Use Proposals.
Prepares and presents briefings to the Fisheries and Ecological Services management team on the technical and political aspects of complex invasive species programs and projects.

Only experience and education obtained by 10/17/2024 will be considered.
In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
A bachelors degree or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. I will submit my transcripts with my application that verifies this. OR
A combination of education and experience that included coursework equivalent to a major (i.e. 24 semester/36 quarter hours or school equivalent) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines as shown in 1 above, PLUS appropriate experience or additional education, and in combination equals 100% of the basic requirements
Minimum Qualification [GS-11]
One year of specialized experience at or comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-9 in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience must include: (1) Assists with assessment and evaluation of potential impacts (legal, environmental, political, and procedural) of policy and Program proposals; (2) Evaluates proposals and annual program workplans addressing fisheries, habitat restoration, and invasive species; (3) Assists with planning a wide variety of projects, including invasive species biosecurity, such as watercraft inspections and invasive species rapid response. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified. OR
Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree -OR- have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or closely related field. OR
A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement
Minimum Qualification [GS-12]
One year of specialized experience at or comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-11 in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience must include: (1) Assesses and evaluates the potential impacts (legal, environmental, political, and procedural) of policy and Program proposals, including requests for invasive species project funding; (2) Evaluates proposals and annual program workplans addressing fisheries, habitat restoration, and invasive species; (3) Plans, coordinates, and carries out a wide variety of projects, including invasive species biosecurity, such as watercraft inspections and invasive species rapid response; (4) Devises innovative changes, methods, and measures to formulate environmentally sound policies and procedures; and (5) Evaluates the effectiveness and performance of strategic ecological services plans to create solutions for long-term improvements. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education
PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.
PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
