You will serve as a Branch Head and Supervisory Physicist/Chemist in the Advanced Technologies Development Department of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV.

Duties

You will provide technical oversight of a major avionics system program. You will apply progressive working knowledge and understanding of acoustics, non-acoustic, and Airborne Anti-Submarine (ASW) system development fields to meet aviation system program goals and objectives. You will manage financial resources within an assigned budget. You will develop, plan, and obtain funds for acquisition of facilities, test equipment, and software. You will formulate long-range objectives as well as identify financial support requirements, schedules, and support needed for the execution of assigned programs. You will demonstrate work-related experience in the practical application, integration, and transfer of technologies to airborne platforms. You will participate in coordinating and assigning work assignments to subordinates, based on organizational priorities, selective consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments, and/or capabilities of employees. You will exercise strong engineering judgment in conceiving, planning, and managing complex and pioneering work for assigned avionic systems. You will be responsible for the training and continuous quality improvement of assigned personnel. You will maintain and foster positive working relationships with internal and external contacts to ensure program needs are addressed and accomplished. You will liaison with others (e.g., technicians, professionals, etc.) on latest trends in technology.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.

  • This position is a designated Critical Acquisition Position (CAP). You must sign a three-year tenure agreement prior to assuming the position unless a tenure waiver is approved.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13/14) or pay band (NM-04) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Supervisory Physicist/Chemist. Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

For 1310 Physics Series:
A. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.

B. Combination of education and experience with course work equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For 1320 Mathematics Series:
A. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

B. Combination of education and experience with course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
