This position is located within the Environmental Management Service (EMS), Office of the Assistant Director at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Marion, IN. The primary purpose of this position is to provide patient effects assistance to our inpatient and outpatient medical care Veterans at our main facility and access points. They carry out various requirements that impact EMS and other services related to the Patient Assistance Program (PAP).

Duties

Patient Effects Worker duties and responsibilities include: Responsible for the receiving and storing of supplies for indigent patients, which may include proper handling of patients valuables. Maintaining adequate stock level of supplies needed to ensure to always meet the need of our indigent veteran patients. Verified patient status before honoring requests for supplies. Frequent rounding to admission areas and all nursing units for collecting, inventorying and returning to storage, patient belongings or personal items. Responsible for safekeeping of all patient belongings and valuables collected for storage during patients hospital stay. Organizing patients' effects storage room to help keeping it neat and orderly. Prepares any clothing items needing to be laundered at the Consolidated Laundry facility. Knowledge of policy and procedures governing the operation of the Patient Assistance Program (PAP). Use of ADP equipment which may include creating MS word documents, Excel Spreadsheets, as well as the use of office automations. Completes tasks in a timely manner without normal supervision. Ensures confidential information remains confidential at all times. Relays any problems and/or events to supervisors and managers. Performs minor maintenance of equipment utilized in the program. Conducts inventory of Personnel Effects storeroom for reporting. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when required to do so. Performs other related duties as assigned. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/10/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must have the physical capability to remain on his/her feet for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend, push, pull, reach, and exercise normal body movements to perform the duties of the position. Physical strength and visual acuity to operate and control the equipment used in this activity. Frequently lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds of various sizes and shapes; may occasionally lift and move objects weighing over 50 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to unpleasant odors, dirt, bacteria, etc. May be subjected to contagious diseases when handling patients' effects. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, ie., gowns, gloves, when handling patient effects/belongings for inventorying and marking. Must be safety conscious at all times when performing duties of this position
