About the Position: As an Environmental Protection Specialist in the Regulatory Division, performs a mixture of duties to include those requiring a specialized knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of program and administrative work relating to environmental protection programs and regulatory requirements.
Duties
Coordinate issues pertaining to environmental compliance and remedial actions.
Assists in developing and conducting various environmental training.
Evaluate and recommend action on permit applications for projects that involve routine changes to waterway or shoreline use.
Conducts site inspections to make wetland determinations.
Gather information on conditions and potential mitigation measures.
Assess and correlate environmental data, verify results, and discuss technical aspects of work such as jurisdictional determination
forms, stream and wetland functional assessments.
Coordinate proposed projects/modifications with the applicant/permittee, their representatives, other Federal/State/local
agencies, and other interested parties.
Perform data base searches and record compilations for permit evaluations, within-office studies, HQ/Division data calls,
requests under Freedom of Information Act, etc.
Manage quality control for permit and enforcement records.
Provide advice and assistance for the solution of problems, interprets regulations, procedures and policies relative to the administrative actions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment to accomplish assigned duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the development or implementation of environmental protection policies and programs and standard data gathering and analysis techniques in reference to environmental information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education (minimum of 36 semester hours) leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Environmental Science, Environmental Protection, or Biology. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required specialized experience to qualify. For this job at the GS-09 grade level, if you qualify based on your education
must submit transcripts.
