The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, repair, troubleshoot, test, install, modify, operate, calibrate modifications to highly complex systems of electronic sensors, large steam boilers, and support equipment including both electrical and mechanical systems and controls, as well as fuel and steam distribution lines located in the Clear Steam Plant complex.

Duties

- Installs, overhauls, repairs, fabricates, modifies, and tests electronically controlled industrial systems, components, and subassemblies - Works with high voltages performing inspections, repairs, adjustments and maintenance of electrical equipment, electrical distribution systems, electrical devices, sequential controls, alarm panels, and sensors - Trouble shoot, repair, adjust, modify, and maintain single and multiple Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) - Plans, lays-out, and conducts electrical as well as mechanical work from blue prints, specification diagrams, electrical block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders - Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations. Uses and maintains tools and equipment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600, Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, capabilities, and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices; knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits for power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, and similar devices; knowledge of programing logic control programing to modify, test, back-up, and restore programmable logic controllers; knowledge of Boolean algebra to construct truth tables and logic equations for analysis of logic circuits; and knowledge of related electrical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. 2. Knowledge of mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic principles to operate, inspect, install, test, maintain, and repair high pressure vessels and associated auxiliary control equipment. 3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to perform maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of electrical systems from 480 volts AC to micro DC voltage. 4. Knowledge of technical practices in order to perform various operational repairs and preventive maintenance on the control systems for boilers and pollution control equipment. 5. Technical knowledge on setting up electronic control systems for mechanical equipment, including integrating electrical wiring requirements to pneumatic and hydraulic systems. 6. Skill in troubleshooting complex problems on large projects and applying prescribed test procedures.??????? PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment using hoists, holders, and pulleys as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works primarily indoors, on level work floors, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks and other protective gear and devices when there is a possibility of exposure to electrical circuits, chemicals, heat, steam, noise, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Occasionally works outside, on top of buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Subject to possible burns, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises, and chemical irritations. To reduce dangers from these and other similar conditions, follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment, such as safety glasses, hard-toe shoes, respirators, hard hats, as well as electrical and fire retardant gloves.
