This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Northeast Area, Geneva, New York.
In this position, you will be involved in almost all phases of the scientist's study and will have responsibility for selected phases or conducting test applications of scientific and technical theories when the methods, techniques, and procedures are clearly outlined.
Duties
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
Maintains records, locates and compiles data and other information from various sources.
Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.
Tests and applies emerging technologies to germplasm conservation and characterization efforts.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

- This position will support the establishment and maintenance of the USDA hemp germplasm collection and hemp breeding activities.
- The incumbent will conduct hemp plant maintenance in a lab, field, and greenhouse.
- The incumbent will process hemp material, operate complex scientific equipment, and summarize hemp research findings, while ensuring hemp regulatory compliance with state and federal regulations.

GS-05
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience keeping detailed records of experimental data; and collecting, preparing, evaluating, or verifying plant or genetic samples and supporting records.
OR
Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position. Related courses may include Horticulture, Plant Biology, Genetics, Natural Resources/Environmental Science, Research Analytics, Plant Analytics, or Agricultural Science.

GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience keeping detailed records of experimental data; collecting, preparing, evaluating, or verifying plant or genetic samples and supporting records; and maintaining plant materials in greenhouse or growth chamber environments.

Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Horticulture, Plant Biology, Genetics, Natural Resources/Environmental Science, Research Analytics, Plant Analytics, or Agricultural Science.

A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting, preparing, evaluating, or verifying plant or genetic samples and supporting records; maintaining plant materials in greenhouse or growth chamber environments; and analyzing plant materials for important horticultural or agronomic characteristics for extensive data collection and documentation.

Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Horticulture, Plant Biology, Genetics, Natural Resources/Environmental Science, Research Analytics, Plant Analytics, or Agricultural Science.

A combination of graduate level education and experience as described above.
