The United States Space Force (USSF) at Kirtland Air Force Base (New Mexico) is searching for a Chief for Next Generation Satellite Command and Control Development (NH-0801-04, GS-14/15 Equivalent).

Space Systems Command is the birthplace of U.S. Space Force's ballistic missile and military space program and is the center of acquisition excellence for acquiring and developing military space systems.
Our portfolio includes the Global Positioning System, military satellite communications, defense meteorological satellites, space launch and range systems, satellite control networks, space based infrared systems and space situational awareness capabilities. DUTIES: The primary purpose of this position is to provide senior level systems engineering and management experience to the Prototype Ground Development & Sustainment Branch (SZIG) within the Innovation and Prototyping Delta (SZI) at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. SZIG is the United States Space Force premier Satellite Ground System Development organization, leading the way in transitioning from legacy on-premise hardware based systems to automated cloud-based systems leveraging emerging technologies. With SZIG, you will lead a team in solving a wide range of engineering problems arising from the acquisition and inclusion of emerging technologies into existing systems, and the design and development of cutting-edge cloud-based systems. We work with some of the nation's top space agencies such as the Space Rapid Capabilities Office and the Air Force Research Laboratory to ensure the United States maintains the technological advantage in the Space environment.
Ideal Candidate:-
- MUST have a bachelor's degree in engineering or science.
- Experience in satellite ground system development utilizing virtual networks.
- MUST have leadership experience and skilled in managing a diverse workforce.
- Working knowledge/experience in complex system integration and testing.
- Working knowledge/experience of the USAF or USSF Acquisitions process.
- Working knowledge/experience of both Confluence and Jira.
- Working knowledge/experience managing and operating in a multi-layered security organization.
Desired:
- DAU Certified in Program Management, Engineering, Contracting or Financial Management.
- Working knowledge/experience working with the USAF/USSF Financial Management System/process.
- Master's degree.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of advanced multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques to apply experimental theories and new developments to problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, and to plan and execute specialized programs of marked difficulty, responsibility, and significance.
2. Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, and operation of the DoD, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence systems acquisition, development, and/or sustainment; and knowledge of planning, programming, and budgeting cycles, financial systems, and restrictions on expenditure of funds.
3. Knowledge of and skill in evaluating state-of-the-art and advancements in theory, application, technology, and policy affecting systems being developed, and in planning, organizing, and directing the functions and staff in critical aspects of development, production, and/or support of systems, subsystems, or equipment.
4. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
5. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, building consensus and coalitions, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with a variety of individuals and organizations as well as communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of an organization, and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff through subordinate supervisors as well as analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
Requirements
- This position is eligible for telework 2-4 days a pay period.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret /SCI clearance.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- PCS funding is available.

- A professional engineering degree at the bachelor’s level from an ABET accredited institution is highly desired.

- This is a Critical Acquisition Position (CAP).
- Employee must be a member of the Acquisition Corps at the time of appointment
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use, IAW AFI 90-508.
- The employee is required to submit an initial and annual SF-450 (Financial Disclosure).
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
