This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Atlantic Area Command, Fifth District Command, Sector Maryland - NCR, Inspections Division, Baltimore, MD.

The selectee will serve as a Marine Inspector, responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, vessel manning, regulations, treaties, and international conventions.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Examples of specialized experience includes: Specialized experience is experience independently conducting, and/or serving as a qualified team member or leader on, marine inspections or vessel surveys on the most complex vessels (must include petroleum industry vessels); determining compliance with laws, regulations, and applicable standards, verifying the existence of proper vessel documentation and the certification and safe and proper operating order of systems (navigation, communication, alarm, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems) and machinery, and the soundness and acceptable parameters of vessel structures and hulls; identifying hazardous conditions and violations and prescribing corrective measures; overseeing new construction of small passenger vessels, implementing Alternate Compliance Program and Self Streamlined Inspection Program requirements, and evaluating International Safety Management Systems; providing technical expertise and training to junior inspectors; providing input to program planning; and writing analytical reports. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
