Duties

Perform damage inspections when requested by the shipper or the claims office. Ensure inventory is complete and report on damage and missing items is accurate. Inspect crates and material for overseas or domestic shipment and reject those not meeting specifications. Observe, document, and evaluate carrier and contractor performance. Counsel members regarding policies and procedures for the proper preparation of personal property for shipment or storage, including specialized items, to domestic and overseas locations Prepare documentation reporting carrier performance using automated systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires temporary duty (TDY) business travel approximately 20% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate valid state driver's license
  • May be required to work various hours to include holidays, weekends, or on-call duty.
  • Overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government vehicle operation certificate, within 30 days of employment.

Specialized Experience Statement: One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level which includes 1) packing and unpacking boxes, crates, or shipments in the proper manner in order to prevent damages; 2) assisting with damage inspections; 3) assisting with inspections to ensure materials have been packaged properly; and 4) use various computer programs to type and prepare reports and documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Typing Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailCustomer ServiceTransportation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
