As a Maintenance Mechanic at Badlands National Park, you will use journeyman-level knowledge to plan and carry out work in a variety of trades on both historic and non-historic properties.
Please note: This is a career seasonal position. You can expect to work a minimum of 13 pay periods and a maximum of 25 pay periods per year. Non-pay status is anticipated to be from November to December each year.
Duties
Construct, install, and repair a wide range of features on buildings, such as framework, rafters, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, and flooring
Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment
Patch and repair roofs consisting of built-up tar and paper, metal, foam, or asphalt shingles
Paint, decorate, and refinish a variety of interior and exterior surfaces
Construct, repair, or stabilize a variety of brick, block, or stone structures or surfaces, such as bridges, retaining walls, walkways, patios, and fireplaces
Operate farm-type tractors with towed or attached equipment on steep hill or rough terrain, as well as trucks with a gross vehicle weight of up to 42,000 lbs
Requirements

- You are required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

- You must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Selectee must be able to lift 50 lbs
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
Qualifications
In order to be qualified for this position you must be able to: perform common Maintenance Mechanic tasks related to the carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and painting trades. Your experience must include constructing structures, such as cabinets, kiosks, or storage areas from wood or wood composites; modifying or repairing water utility, supply or disposal systems; using standard masonry techniques to repair structures made of brick, block, or stone; preparing surfaces for painting or staining and then using a variety of tools (e.g. sprayers, rollers, brushes, etc.) to coat the surfaces; and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions to complete tasks. Your work must be completed on your own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
