You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Radiological Support Branch (Code 102.12G) for the Radiological Control Office (Code 105), Guam Detachment of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will review radiological controls reactor principles, and radiological surveys (interpreting and evaluating hazards). You will provide techniques to detect and measure radioactivity and ionizing radiation, interactions of ionizing radiation with living and non-living materials, and reactor system. You will provide standard practices of radiation protection; and current Shipyard practices and requirements as they apply to radiological controls. You will exercise both administrative and technical supervision over subordinates for technical radiological control work. You will coordinate work with other first line supervisors within the division to ensure proper radiological coverage in all assigned areas and to work out job priorities and procedures to be used where overlap occurs. You will establish performance standards and evaluate performance of employees. You will identify developmental and training needs of supervisors and employees and make provisions for such development and training. You will be responsible for qualifying and responding to radiological emergencies as well as training subordinates to prepare for, prevent, and respond to and recover from major radiological emergencies. You will be responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the contents for all training courses, seminars, drills, lectures, and techniques taught by the Branch.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport. Must be able to obtain a government issued passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be medically qualified to receive occupational exposure to ionizing radiation in accordance with NAVMED P-5055.
  • This position may require working overtime, rotate shifts, work weekends/holidays and to work off shifts.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: developing, implementing, and monitoring radiological controls/hazards and practices to minimize exposure, detect and measure radioactivity and ionizing radiation, interactions of ionizing radiation with living and non-living materials, reactor systems, standards and practices of radiation protection, and current Shipyard practices and requirements as they apply to radiological controls. This position does not require education.

Additional Information:

Work is sedentary, but inspection trips on projects throughout the Naval Base are routine. Visits
to the dry docks, submarines, and surface crafts requires climbing, bending, lifting up to 50
pounds, and walking throughout the industrial complex.

Must have a current "SA" qualification as required per the NAVSEA 389-0288 and able to
maintain such qualification.
