You will serve as a Legal Assistant (OA) in the Office of Commanding Officer, Code 100821 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.
Duties
You will be responsible for preparing and transmitting correspondence on behalf of the intellectual property attorneys.
You will aid in maintaining the case folders and intellectual property computer databases of the office.
You will obtain copies of drawings and assure that executed applications, amendments, appeals, petitions, documents and letters are complete and properly assembled and filled in accordance with the Navy.
You will answer telephone inquiries, schedule meetings, distribute mail, and log and distribute publication request to attorneys.
You will research, interpret, and apply a variety of rules and regulations.
Requirements

- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
Qualifications
This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-01/04 grade level or pay band (NC-01) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following duties: (1) Preparing and transmitting correspondence on behalf of the intellectual property attorneys; 2.) Preparing legal memoranda, patent applications, patent prosecution documents and necessary oaths; 3.) Obtaining copies of drawings and assuring that executed applications, amendments, appeals, petitions, documents and letters are complete; 4.) Preparing information release paperwork for inventors to route their patent applications; and 5.) Answering telephone inquiries, scheduling meetings, distributing mail, and logging publication request to attorneys.

Education
In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
4 years above high school(except Reporting Stenographer)
