This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Sector Northern New England, South Portland, ME.
Duties
You will serve as principal command office assistant. The position provides administrative processing and support for the manager/supervisor and/or the immediate office staff and oversees production and processing of administrative services on behalf of the entire organization.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: - Performing a variety of administrative and support type duties in such areas as administration, security, travel, training, files management, property accountability, timekeeping and reports.- Assuring the propriety of formats, spacing, arrangements, and preparation of material in final form as prescribed in style manuals.- Managing office operations for an organization with a mission that affects a wide range of agency activities.- Maintaining calendar of recurring meetings, Videoconferencing (VTC5), etc. as well as unscheduled activities.- Participating in administrative areas by researching prior publications, regulations, and recommending new procedures and/or changes.- Operating computer terminal and peripheral equipment (printers, remote access devices, phones, cameras, projectors, etc) in daily execution of duties.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Must be able to type 40 wpm.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
GS-7: To be qualified at the GS-7 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06 or equivalent) in the federal services. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Some examples of specialized experience are responding to requests from the public; using effective interpersonal skills in working with others; utilizing office automation software to perform tasks and update databases; and maintaining tracking systems; maintaining supervisor's calendar and travel schedule.**Must possess a 40 words per minute typing speed.** National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
