About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Assistant in a Civilian Human Resources Agency, U.S. Corps of Engineers Human Resources Directorate, Staffing Division. Performs a wide variety of technical support duties in the Human Resources function of Recruitment and Placement. Provides recruitment and placement support services to HR Specialists including planning, coordinating, and developing facts related to problems that arise in the area of responsibility.

Duties

Assists in recruitment activities by arranging for physical examinations, verifying veterans’ preference, making job offers, coordinating Entrance on Duty (EOD)/release dates and processing pre-appointment security checks. Uses computer, word processing and/or other office automation equipment and various software programs to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve and print a variety of documents. Create or maintain spreadsheets or databases. Transmit, receive and/or acknowledge electronic mail, messages, forms and reports. Material is created in draft or final form into a variety of formats utilizing terminology common to the program and organization. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of information, spelling, grammar construction, punctuation and presence of necessary enclosures.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience for the GS-06 Level: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Reviewing, collecting, and/or responding to information for personnel actions and/or inquiries; and 2) Inputting and/or extracting data into automated HR systems; and 3) Utilizing a wide range of office automation software to produce documents, reports, and/or spreadsheets. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for the GS-07 Level: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Researching human resources (HR) regulations, policies, and/or personnel guidance; and 2) Providing support services involving personnel coordination efforts; and 3) Utilizing HR automated software to manipulate and analyze data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, at the GS-06 and GS-07 only, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement for the GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. Time in Grade Requirement for the GS-06/GS-07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent. For the GS-06 you must have 52 weeks at the GS-05 level. For the GS-07 you must have 52 weeks at the GS-06 level. You must meet time in grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Qualification requirement: Qualifications must be met within the closing date of the announcement.
