Duties

This vacancy is open to the first 75 applicants or until 10/04/2024 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of two years without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. This position serves as the primary coordinator and project manager of the National Parks of Boston's 250th Commemorative events in 2025-2026. Together with an interdisciplinary team of park staff, partners, and community stakeholders, this position will play a key role in successful event choreography and implementation. Special events will build upon a suite of programs that align with the National Parks of Boston's commemorative approach, Unfinished: America at 250, and offer audiences diverse opportunities to connect with park through compelling storytelling, experiences, and events. The major duties of the Special Events Coordinator include the following: Actively coordinates and collaborates in a leadership capacity to plan, organize, manage and implement a full range of arts and cultural programming via impactful partnerships. Assists partners and community organizations to develop smaller scale programs that that are complementary to park goals and objectives while meeting partner community needs. Assists with management of the park's special park uses and commercial filming program. Screens applications seeking opportunities for potential collaborative programming and/or relationship building related to cultural programming. Monitors permit holders to ensure they are operating as authorized and are in compliance with the terms and conditions of their contracts, permits, and/or licenses, including intellectual property. Represents the park for large scale arts and cultural events working with professional production stage managers, producers, lighting and scenic designers, directors, and others, in order to closely coordinate the technical aspects of production needs. Coordinates, develops, and/or leads digital strategies and efforts to implement and sustain existing and new media platforms that achieve park goals and meet audience needs for arts and cultural programming. Monitors technical developments in concert or theatre equipment, lighting, and sound systems to ensure systems are up-to-date and fully functional. Strategically manages the use and operations of the park's event facilities by cultural program partners in support the park's goals and objectives.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/04/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for the Special Events Coordinator Position: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: visitor services and operations, resource monitoring and visitor compliance, customer service, planning and project coordination, partner and community engagement, team leadership, budget management and oral and written communication. You must include hours per week worked. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, divide your number of credit hours in excess of 36 semester hours (or 54 quarter hours) by 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours), or the number your school uses to represent one year of full time graduate academic study. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. To calculate your percentage of experience, divide your months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Add the two percentages. They must equal at least 100% to qualify using this option. You must include transcripts and hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
