This position is a member of the Director's staff and serves as a Staff Assistant in the Montgomery, AL Regional Office. The incumbent reviews plan, analyzes and develops program requirements, establishes and revises operating procedures, reviews operations, and provides technical assistance. Duties
Duties:
Closely monitors the Regional Office's corporate mailbox for incoming correspondence from various entities, including but not limited to, the Southeast District, Central Office Congressional Offices, Veterans Service Officers, the Office of the Inspector General, the Veterans Health Administration, and legal representatives.
Solely responsible for the timely and accurate submission of all information requests and ensuring coordination among divisions when necessary.
Responsible for the workbook created to track items including White House Controlled Correspondence and Congressional inquiries.
Administers the internal operational details of the Office of the Director and is the principal staff advisor on office policies and procedures.
Serves as a liaison between the Director and other offices, using knowledge of past and present policies, procedures and organizational structure.
Maintains confidentiality of all personnel and operational discussions in the Director's office.
Maintains control of files (mostly electronic)containing general information, data and statistics related to the operations of the RO required for audit and reporting purposes.
Ensures the timely completion of all required Strategic Oversight and Analysis Reviews (SOARs).
Is the point of contact for visiting VA official and site visit teams.
Serves as an office manager for the Director's office.
Manages schedules, makes appointments and coordinates meetings on behalf of the Director and Assistant Directors.
Uses a computer with a variety of software programs, to include Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint and Power Apps to prepare reports and correspondence.
Makes airline and hotel reservations for official trips taken by the Director and other Director's Office staff, as needed.

Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Provide a copy of your current or most recent SF-50, "Notification of Personnel Action" to indicate your current federal status.
You must also submit additional SF-50(s) to clearly demonstrate one year time-in-grade as required in the announcement. If the most recent non-award SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate that you possess one year time-in-grade. In this instance, you must provide an additional non-award SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS- 9). Specialized experience
Setting up and maintaining Regional Office mailbox(es)
Making travel arrangements for management staff; Preparing correspondence for timely distribution
Functioning as an office manager making appointments, managing schedules, maintaining calendars and coordinating meetings
Serving as the main timekeeper for the Director's office
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work normally involves mental rather than physical exertion. The work is mostly sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, and carrying of light items such as papers, books, claims folders, and files from one desk to another or for returning to storage. Carts are utilized to carry large number of claims folders. This will require the incumbent to push or pull the cart from one area to another.
