This career/career-conditional permanent full-time position is located in Shenandoah National Park, in the Facilities Management Division, Buildings, Utilities, and Sanitation Unit. Duties

This position is duty stationed at Big Meadows Maintenance Office located near mile-marker 51 on Skyline Drive. This position is responsible for management of waste collection/disposal and custodial operations. Duties include: Supervision of custodial functions and collection and disposal of wastes and litter/trash within the Sanitation Unit of Shenandoah National Park; supervises 10-12 career-seasonal and/or temporary workers. Performs administrative functions including recruitment/hiring, time keeping, performance evaluations/awards/disciplinary actions, etc. Completes daily work reports; performs long-term planning and data entry associated with the Facility Management Software System (FMSS). Responsible for maintenance/management of park facilities including visitor centers, comfort stations, vault toilets, campgrounds and picnic areas. Operations are managed in accordance with all Environmental Protection (EPA) and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) regulations. Prepares and monitors an annual operational budget related to the cleaning and sanitation of assigned park assets. Orders supplies and materials for the sanitation unit; ensures a sufficient inventory to complete assignments. POSITION LOCATION: Shenandoah National Park preserves and protects more than 300 square miles of nationally significant natural and cultural resources, scenic beauty, and congressionally designated wilderness within Virginia's northern Blue Ridge Mountains; and provides a broad range of opportunities for public enjoyment, recreation, inspiration, and stewardship. Within just 90 miles of Washington D.C. the Park provides visitors the ability to explore mountain peaks, hidden hollows, cascading streams, accessible wilderness, and stunning natural beauty. Approximately 40% of the Park is designated wilderness with over 500 miles of hiking trails and the iconic Skyline Drive, SHEN was established as an eastern Park that provided a "western Park experience". Due to the Park's easy accessibility to D.C and other highly populated areas along the east coast, visitation exceeds 1.4 million visitors annually which results in significant resource protection and visitor management issues and incidents.
