This National Guard position is for a MILITARY & FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T57014P1 and is part of the NC G1, National Guard (G1 - SSS Family Support / Manning Doc 132F-007).
Duties
As a MILITARY and FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-09, you will serve as fully independent advisor within geographical area of responsibility in accomplishing allobjectives of the Soldier & Family Readiness Program (SFRP) for the Army National Guard tomaximize retention and readiness; provide input to develop, articulate, and implement the Family Readiness Program at the State level, inclusive of family readiness, family assistance, employmentoutreach, volunteer training and management and improvement of quality of life and well-being ofService members and families; conduct needs assessments to determine requirements; collect andorganizes volunteer, family, and other related data, submit data and information through the StateFamily Program Director or Supervisory Family Support Services Specialist. Implement and maintaincomputer entry system to support reporting, for retrieval, and dissemination; ensure accurate andtimely input into the NGB-approved system of record for all applicable Service Members and Familycase information,unit support, community outreach, training provision, volunteer management andother Family Program data. Coach, mentor, train junior staff. Conduct briefings at the local, unit andstate levels to provide necessary information to leadership, commanders, Soldiers, Families, Soldierand Family Readiness Groups (SFRGs) and community partners and stimulate interest and supportto build program and community capacity; manage and operates family assistance center and provide assistance to commands withingeographical area of responsibility in support of the SFRP; provide information resource referraland non-medical administrative case management across all essential services; including but notlimited to, Crisis, Legal, Financial, TRICARE, ID Cards/DEERS, Community Information and OutreachServices, Employment/Financial Literacy, Emergency Family Assistance Center (EFAC) andExceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). Develop and maintain a directory of resources, agencies and organizations that are available to assist Service-members; family and survivors.Shall coordinate assistance from military, government, and civilian organizations as needed to assistService Members, Family Members, Retirees, and Civilian Government Employees needing military quality of life support, and ensure accurate and timely input into the NGB-approved system ofrecord for all applicable Service Members and Family case information; establish recurring outreachcontact with each Service member's Designated Individual as directed by law, regulation orinstruction from the Supervisory Family Support Services Specialist; provide support during 24/7EFAC operations, Yellow Ribbon Reintegration activities, Recruit Sustainment Program activities, drilland annual training periods as required; provide training and technical support to Commanders and Family Readiness Liaisons to supporttheir Unit Family Readiness program and Soldier & Family Readiness Groups (SFRGs); responsible to conduct informal and formal training and recruiting of volunteers; support volunteers to workwith the Family Readiness Groups (SFRGs), and to instruct and train units, soldiers, and theirfamilies; provide training and technical assistance to unit commanders and Family Readinessliaisons to develop local unit SFRGs. recruit and complete administrative actions for theappointment of statutory volunteers; develop and conduct orientation and training programs forvolunteers, including Army Family Team Building, Army Family Action Plan and OperationReady/Readiness Essentials for Army Leaders. Maintain a system of documenting volunteer servicesand hours, and a library of resource materials concerning volunteerism, and provide materials tovolunteers as needed; plan volunteer recognition activities at the unit and State levels and makesrecommendations to the State Family Program Director or Supervisory Family Support ServicesSpecialist higher headquarters for state and national level volunteer awards; initiate InvitationalTravel Orders (ITOs) for volunteers; plan and conduct workshops and seminars, coordinatingvolunteer assistance as needed; identify statutory volunteers to serve as State Family Programvolunteer council members, coordinates activities, and council communications; assist higherheadquarters in planning and coordinating resources for family assistance at deployment cyclesupport and steady-state readiness activities; implement and maintains a system of providingpublications and information to units and SFRGs. Provide technical support and training to FamilyReadiness liaison and Rear Detachment Commanders in support of unit family readiness; submit information to support development and budget forecasting to support the Soldier andFamily Readiness Support Program to higher headquarters; conduct staff assistance visits to unitsin the geographical area of responsibility to accomplish the objectives of the program; perform other duties as assigned.

- Designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This
designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one (1) year experience at the next lower level in the normal line of progression through federal service (GS-07) or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that demonstrates the experience and knowledge of managing, coordinating and planning family, quality-of-life or human services programs. Experience providing advice and assistance on community resources and social service agencies/programs. Experience analyzing, evaluating and making recommendations for improvement of family, quality-of-life or human services programs. Experience developing newsletters, literature and training materials to support a program.
