This position is located in the Nursing Department at the Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte, SD. The Outpatient Supervisor has full program responsibility for the functioning of the Outpatient Nursing Department.

Assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates for a 24 hours period
Collaborates with the assistant Director of Nursing in the evaluation of personnel using the Performance Appraisal System
Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of nursing and personnel educational activities that directly and indirectly affect patient care outcomes.
Maintains clinical competence and expertise in Medical, Surgical, Obstetrical and pediatric Nursing. Develops an orientation plan for each new employee that is specific to their skills and the needs of the unit and the agency.
Qualifications

Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level

At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Professional experience with nursing concepts, skills and principles necessary to provide services including assessment and therapeutic skills; teaching principles, pharmaceuticals including their desired effects and complications; medical equipment and skills necessary to use them; diagnostic procedures and tests including their interpretation and performance. Counseling skills to communicate with individuals, groups from various educational, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Nursing leadership experience is necessary to effectively manage nursing services in the medical clinic and to prioritize these services according to patient needs and outcomes.

Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field;
Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.
Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
