Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Health Communications Specialist, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Engaging in the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of major national communication and marketing programs, projects, and strategies for the lay and professional audiences, including innovative demonstration projects. Engaging in the development, testing, and timely dissemination of science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages to different audiences (i.e., general public, external organizations, partners, and media) in a variety of formats (i.e., print, video, Web). Participating in the creation of strategic and integrated plans and strategies for public health communication and marketing programs, campaigns, and activities. Conducting research and evaluation activities related to health communication and marketing. Working with management to ensure that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are integrated into the health communication or marketing program or project's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products, and services. Serving as a liaison, under the guidance of senior staff, between agency and other SAMHSA communication and marketing staff on agency-wide issues and networks with a variety of external stakeholders (e.g., health officials in federal, state, and local agencies, communication experts, and representatives of the general public). ** Duties as shown are at the full performance level (FPL) of the GS-13. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the FPL.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Minimum Qualifications: For GS-11: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following: Assisting in the development of public health strategies, procedures, and/or guidelines related to health communications. Assisting in conducting studies of public health program operations related to health communications. Recommending improvements to public health program processes around health communications. For GS-12: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing at least four (4) of the following: Assisting in the development of public health strategies, procedures, and/or guidelines related to health communications. Assisting in conducting studies of public health program operations related to health communications. Recommending improvements to public health program processes around health communications. Implementing improvements to public health program organizational effectiveness and/or efficiency through the use of effective health communications policies, programs, and policies. Developing communications resources for a variety of populations and audiences across the lifespan. Documenting experience: IN DESCRIBING YOUR EXPERIENCE, PLEASE BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
