This position is located at the Wyoming VA HealthCare System (WYVAHCS), Cheyenne, Wyoming and is aligned under Facility Service. The position oversees the engineering equipment operations is located in Facility Management Services in Cheyenne Wyoming serving the Cheyenne VA Medical facility. This incumbent will oversee operations for the grounds crew which consists of 5 engineering equipment operators.

Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to: Supervise lawn maintenance such as irrigation systems, Specific types of grass maintenance to the local area. Lead in snow removal for the Cheyenne Campus and ensure all walkways are cleared of ice and snow for safe egress in and out of buildings as well as have a parking lot snow plan. Supervises and directs the accomplishment of all work assigned by operations section by utilizing the organization, equipment, work methods, personnel, and material provided. Assigns personnel to specific jobs, explaining work requirements, standards of production, quality, and schedules to be met. Evaluates progress of work to ensure quality and quantity meet standards. Grade surfaces to rough or fine specifications by adjusting attachments while the vehicle is in motion and on all types of terrain. Inspects operation of machinery and equipment to ensure they are properly maintained and productively operated. Inspects completed work for quality and work order requirements. Reports possible or actual work delays to superiors. Investigates work-related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes. Responsible for the safe operation of the equipment and for seeing that the equipment is not damaged. Performs duties as a Master Driver and engineering equipment instructor for the facility on various equipment and vehicles (e.g., lawn mowers, tractors with attachments, front-end 3 of 5 loaders, bucket loaders, skid-steer loaders with wheels and tracks, forklifts, utility vehicles, dump trucks, truck trailers). Responsible for instructing students on all safety matters; coupling and uncoupling the engineering equipment, attachments, and trailers; maneuvering vehicles within close tolerances when driving or backing between buildings and other vehicles or into loading docks. Operating vehicles on installation highways, winding roads, and steep grades; manipulating dual braking systems; performing preventive maintenance; arranging for towing and unexpected repairs; and loading, arranging, and securing cargo in trailers. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, crawling and climbing. Incumbent must have good vision, with or without glasses. May lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items over 50 pounds. Functional requirements include: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over. Heavy carrying, 45 pounds and over. Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers, both hands, and both legs. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Both eyes required.
