Duties
Serve as a Lead Medical Records Technician, responsible duties involved with the qualitative analysis and review of outpatient health records to ensure inclusion of all pertinent data as prescribed by regulations.
Assist in balancing tasks among employees, pulling medical records and/or data from automated systems.
Provide information and related administrative service to customer of the section.
Review and analyze medical records and provide a variety of clerical support related to patient file records.
Correct technical errors using prescribed methods and perform other checks to ensure the documents contained in the medical records are valid.
Utilize electronic medical records systems via internet, scan, save and insert viable medical documentation into the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) electronic medical record.
Verify beneficiary status through the Defense Manpower Data Center’s (DMDC) General Inquiry of the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) online system.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Subject to occasional both planned and unscheduled overtime as required by management to meet work requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing support work in connection with processing and maintaining medical records for compliance with regulatory requirement associate in analyzing, abstracting, compiling, or extracting medical data; interpreting medical terminology to provide information.
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
