The Chief of Staff reports to the Facility Director and serves as the healthcare system official responsible for all clinical operations. The incumbent serves as the Chief of Staff (COS) for VA SORCC of the Veterans Health Administration. The VA SORCC is an integrated health care system for Veterans serving a broad geographic area encompassing the counties of Jackson, Klamath, and Josephine counties.

Duties

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Duties and responsibilities includes, but not limited to: A Chief of Staff must serve on a full-time basis. The Chief of Staff develops and maintains currently accepted management practices throughout the clinical services. The Chief of Staff develops and presents the budgetary requirements of the clinical services and assists in the formulation of the annual budget program. The Chief of Staff is fully responsible to the Medical Center Director for programs of patient care and for the educational and research activities of the clinical services. To carry out these responsibilities, the Chief of Staff: Formulates and recommends plans for a comprehensive program of medical care. Develops the requirements of staff, facilities, equipment and supplies needed to carry forward such an integrated program, utilizing necessary reviews and controls. Appraises the effectiveness of the various medical programs in meeting the needs of patient care. Promotes the development of health care professionals in the health care system through counseling, mentoring, teaching, and encouraging self-assessment. Serves as Chair of the Executive Council of the Medical Staff (ECMS), and various other clinical leadership committees and councils as directed by policy, or the Facility Director. Provides advice to health care system staff through policy guidance and activities on behalf of patients and their clinical care. Consults with patient care providers and advocates about policies needed to assure acceptable health care services. Promotes compliance with VA regulations and professional standards pertaining to outside professional activities and ethical conduct. Ensures continuous improvement relative to the quality, value, and access of health care services. Other duties as delegated by the Chief of Staff. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm PST Telework: Ad hoc as determined by the agency policy. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Healthcare Experience: Significant experience in the healthcare industry is crucial. This can include roles in hospital administration, clinical operations, or healthcare consulting. Familiarly with the specific challenges and regulations of the medical field is essential. Leadership Skills: Previous experience in leadership roles is important. This can involve managing teams, overseeing projects, and leading initiatives within a healthcare setting. Strategic Planning: Experience in strategic planning and implementation within a healthcare context is valuable. This includes setting organizational goals and aligning resources to achieve them. Operational Excellence: A strong background in operations management, including knowledge of process improvement methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma, can be beneficial. Financial Acumen: Understanding healthcare finance, budgeting, and resource allocation is important for making informed decisions that impact the organizations bottom line. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarly with healthcare regulations, compliance, and accreditation standards is essential to ensure the medical center meets all necessary guidelines. Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are vital, as the Chief of Staff often acts as a liaison between various departments, staff, and external stakeholders. Problem Solving Skills: The ability to think critically and solve complex problems is essential, particularly in high-pressure situations. Networking and Relationship Building: Building relationships with key stakeholders, including physicians, administrators, and community leaders, is crucial for success in this role. Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to self or others. Work requires no extraordinary physical exertion, although there is some requirement to navigate across various sections of the physical campus. Incumbent may need to climb stairs. Duties require periods of standing, walking, bending, and carrying light objects. Incumbent must maintain a valid driver's license and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
