This position is based in the Health Promotion Program at the Kayenta Health Center, Kayenta, Arizona. The incumbent will perform duties as community fitness and exercise coordinator to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and events, provide training other exercise/fitness leaders, worksite wellness, coordinate physical activity education programs in the schools, and oversee community-based exercise programs within the communities/Chapters. Reports to the Health Promotion Coordinator.

Duties

Establishes, coordinates, conducts, and markets regular scheduled community-based, school-based, and worksite wellness programs and activities and campaigns throughout the year Assists with budget development, equipment assigned, and systems of financial support obtainment Assesses client and/or family health needs Documents all client encounters and activities according to service unit and departmental policies Manages and schedules on-going community exercise programs with promotional incentives Directs the management and system development of community exercise sites and schedules Manages the use of Service Unit and community resources Provides training of trainers for community exercise/fitness leaders Directs activity to ascertain community interest, on-going schedules, markets, and publicizes all services Coordinates and implements youth and/or adult recreational leagues Supports the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention objectives related to diabetes prevention

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. GS-05: 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree GS-07: 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement OR Experience General Experience (for GS-5 positions): Experience that provided a knowledge of the goals, principles, methods, and techniques of recreation, and an understanding of the interests of individuals or groups. GS-5: 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-4. Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty area of recreation Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels. Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management. Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations. GS-07: Candidate must have completed 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at lease the GS-05 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
