You will serve as a UTILITY SYSTEMS OPERATOR in the PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. WG 10: $32.87-$38.29 WG 11: $34.76-$40.54 There is a Remote Allowance of $10/day for this location.

Duties

You will adjust and regulate water and sewage systems to maintain maximum operating efficiency. You will collect samples and perform basic tests on water and wastewater for quality control and compliance determination. You will control flow rate to suit conditions, rate of flow, concentration, and type of influent. You will use test equipment and measuring services (e.g., micrometers, precision levels, flow meter, hydrostatic testers) to perform work assignments. You will operate a wastewater treatment plant in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • For WG-10: You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Water Distribution (D2) license from the State of California license within a year of employment
  • For WG-10: You will be required to obtain and maintain a current a Water Treatment (T1) license from the State of California within six months of employment.
  • Incumbent will be required to obtain house lab certification for sampling and testing.
  • Incumbent will be required to enroll in the State sponsored Operator in Training program (min 2000 hours)
  • For WG-10: Incumbent will be required to enroll in educational prerequisites for the Grade 2 Wastewater License.
  • This position requires the employee to possess any applicable license(s) or authorizations(s) to operate assigned equipment.

The selective placement factor is: You must hold a Water Treatment (T1) license from the State of California, Water Distribution (D2) license from the State of California, and Grade-2 Waste Water Treatment Operators License from the State of California. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Maintaining wastewater and potable water systems; 2) Installing new equipment following manufacturer's manuals and makes; and 3) Controlling flow rates to suit conditions, e.g. rate of flow, concentration and type of influent as well as levels in fluent storage tanks. WG 10: This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Interpreting and applying the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop drawings, and blueprints; 2) Utilizing and operating equipment and tools needed to ensure proper operation of systems; and 3) Applying shop mathematics sufficiently to perform assignments.
